Archiving from Microsoft Mail (365) accounts

Microsoft has come up with a little change. If you are using Outlook 365 as your mail provider, you may need to create a specific password to only be used by the archiving script. Following are the instructions on how to do that (taken from duck.ai, so may be wrong)

To generate an app password for your Microsoft Outlook account, especially if you have two-factor authentication (2FA) enabled, follow these steps:

Steps to Generate an App Password

  1. Sign in to Your Microsoft Account:

  2. Navigate to Security Settings:

    • Once logged in, click on the Security tab in the top menu.
    • You may need to verify your identity using a code sent to your email or phone.
  3. Access Additional Security Options:

    • Look for the Advanced security options link and click on it.
  4. Create an App Password:

    • Scroll down to the App passwords section.
    • Click on Create a new app password. A new password will be generated.
  5. Copy the App Password:

    • Make sure to copy the app password displayed on the screen. You will not be able to see it again once you close the window.
  6. Use the App Password:

    • Use this app password in place of your regular password when connecting to your Outlook account via applications that do not support two-factor authentication.

Important Notes

  • Security: Treat your app password like a regular password. Do not share it with anyone.
  • Revoking App Passwords: If you ever need to revoke an app password, you can do so from the same App passwords section.
  • Multiple App Passwords: You can create multiple app passwords for different applications if needed.
